The 2014 IUSTI Europe Congress entitled “Migration, recreation and sexual health” was held in Malta at the Radisson Blu Hotel between 18 and 20 September with the support of of GasanMamo Insurance. The host will be the Maltese Association of Dermatology and Venereology (MADV) strongly supported by the British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) which is co-organiser of the meeting.

Medico-social aspects addressed

The Scientific Committee, led by Dr Jackie Sherrard produced an innovative programme of major interest to STI specialists as well as to colleagues in other specialties including Infectious Diseases, Urology, Gynecology, Family Medicine, and Public Health, whose work may involve STI patients. In addition to the regular important academic topics discussed at IUSTI Europe meetings, this Congress addressed major topical medico-social aspects of sexual health with special emphasis on immigrants, particularly those from Africa.

High quality scientific programme

The scientific program was of very high quality, reflecting the broad range of STI and HIV science and clinical practice with a range of plenaries, symposia, workshops and debates. The major tracks included sex health, travellers and migrants, high risk behaviour, HIV as related to STI practice, viral STIs and advances in diagnostics for sexual health.
