Ten years ago to the month, Gasan Insurance and Galdes & Mamo merged to form what is now a household name in Malta, GasanMamo Insurance. To commemorate this important anniversary, the Prime Minister, The Parliamentary Secretary for Revenues and Land, the Leader of Opposition and the Shadow Minister of Finance were guests of honour at a dinner. Other distinguished guests included the Chairman, Director General and Director – Insurance of the Malta Financial Services Authority, together with Directors and Senior Management of the Company. The Hon Minister of Finance was unable to attend due to pressing engagements overseas.

In 1999 the company embarked on a journey that has proved beneficial to all stakeholders, the company has continued to grow in terms of market share, distribution channels and lines of business. The prudent stance taken by the board has provided stability in a sometimes volatile market. For the first four years GasanMamo insurance was an insurance agency, representing CGU Insurance, part of the UK’s largest insurance group Aviva. In 2003 GasanMamo Insurance converted into to an insurance company. This was a monumental change however, it was implemented seamlessly, always maintaining the highest standards in all that was delivered to customers as well as ensuring financial strength and a long term view.

Whilst congratulating the company for this achievement, the Prime Minister focused on the development of the insurance and financial sector in Malta. Dr Gonzi explained that "in recent years, we have seen the Maltese insurance sector transform itself from a small number of companies operating in the domestic market into an international industry. The sector now comprises 54 captive and commercial insurance operations including subsidiaries of major international insurance and reinsurance groups as well as more than fifty companies providing insurance management, brokering and other intermediation services. As a result employment in this sector has also expanded throughout the years. 2008 registered a 4% increase in employment over the previous year and even this year when compared to a year earlier, employment in the insurance market increased by close to 4%." The Prime Minister added that building on its successes, the industry is expected to further expand and increase its contribution to the economy in term of both value added and employment.

“The merger has proved to be a resounding success and the company has grown and evolved into a leading financial services institution on the island" said GasanMamo Insurance Chairman Mr J Gasan in his speech on the occasion. He thanked all those who have contributed to this success including the Regulators, the Board, Management & Staff and of course clients without whom nothing would be possible.

L-Onorevoli Ministru tal-Finanzi għalkemm kien mistieden ma setax jattendi peress li kien fuq xogħol barra minn Malta.

Fl-1999 l-kumpanija bdiet it-triq ta’ tkabbir, triq li minnha bbenifikaw l-partijiet kollha nteressati (Stakeholders). Il-kumpanija kabbret il-preżenza tagħha fis-suq, fetħet fergħat ġodda ma’ Malta u bdiet toffri prodotti ġodda lil klijenti taghha. Il-pass prudenti li bih il-Bord tad-Diretturi mexa matul dan iż-żmien offra stabilita’ f’suq volatili.

Għall-ewwel erba’ snin GasanMamo Insurance kienet agenzija tal-assikurazzjoni, tirrapreżenta lil CGU Insurance, li hi parti mill-ikbar assikurazzjoni Ingliża, Aviva. Fl-2003 GasanMamo Insurance saret kumpanija tal-assikurazzjoni hi stess – pass importanti fl-evoluzzjoni tal-kumpanija. Din it-transizzjoni saret minajr l-ebda skoss, fejn l-għola livelli tas-servizz li GasanMamo Insurance tant temmen fihom baqħu jingħatu lill-klijenti kif ukoll assigurat is-sahha economika tal-kumpanija.

Filwaqt li faħħar il-kumpanija għal dan l-anniversarju, il-Prim Ministru iffoka fuq l-iżvilupp tal-industrija ta’ l-assikurazzjoni u tas-servizzi finanzjarji ġewwa Malta. Dr Gonzi qal li 9tul dawn l-aħħar snin, l-industrija tal-assikurazzjoni ttrasfurmat ruħha minn waħda domestika bi ftit kumpaniji għal waħda internazzjonali. Is-settur llum ilaħħaq mal-54 kumpanija tal-captive u assikurazzjoni kummerċjali b’numru ta’ sussidarji ta’ kumpaniji internazzjonali kif ukoll aktar minn 50 kumapanija tal-immaniġjar ta’ assikurazzjoni, brokering u servizzi oħra intermedjarji. Minħabba dan l-iżvillup inħolqu aktar positijiet tax-xogħol f’dan is-settur bir-rata tat-tkabbir fl-impjiegi tilħaqq 4% matul l-2008. Dan il-livell ta’ tkabbir issokta din is-sena bir-rata tilħaq qrib l-4%. “ Il-Prim Ministru tenna li dan is-settur għandu l-karatteristiċi biex ikompli jespandi u jkabbar l-kontribuzzjoni tiegħu fit-tkabbir tal-ekonomija u l-ħolqien tax-xogħol.
